Attachment 0With the huge debate going on in our nation about the public option for health care, I only wish one thing. Can we at least get the name right for what it is? We are calling it a public option when I know there are many insurance companies that offer health insurance to the public. I guess the labels are because they are called “private” insurance companies. Can we at least call it a “Business” option and a “government” option?
Sure, there are many people who are happy with their health insurance and there are many who aren’t, but for the government to walk around telling us there needs to be a public option makes me want to just ask the question. Don’t we already have one? I get mail every other day for health insurance and it’s not from the company I work for.
We all agree there needs to be health care reform, I’m not debating that. So if the government wants to now get their hands involved in health care, I think they should have to do it just like us Americans have to apply for a job. Let’s take a look at their resume. Sounds fair enough right? I don’t get to walk into an interview and tell the employer that I’m about to vote on whether I should get the job. So I have a few interview questions for the government before I want to decide whether they should be hired for the job.
1. Do you think the government did a good job monitoring the $700 billion dollar bailout of 2009?
2. NASA just spent $78 million dollars crashing a satellite into the moon. Sure, I believe they thought it was a success because they want to go to work every day. Do you think it was money well spent considering the crisis we are facing in 2009?
3. Will you require everyone who votes for the public option to choose this option in their personal life?
I feel like the government reports to one thing and one thing only. Their campaign speech in the next election and even then we don’t hear the real story. They are even allowed to call the president of the United States a liar on national TV in front of millions of people and not get fired. How many average Americans can do that and still have a job?
I just wish for one year the government was accountable to someone.
